Mrs. Weaver McGuire Banks Thomas was born February 28, 1926.  She was the oldest of two children. She received her early education in the Winchester Public Schools before attending Virginia State College.  She enjoyed traveling and spent many summers in New York City with her Aunt Kathleen.  She adored her grandparents, Annie R. and Thomas H. Banks.  Her grandmother taught her lifelong skills in cooking and etiquette.

After marrying the love of her life, Charles L. Thomas, Jr., in 1947 they moved to the greater Akron area to begin their family.  To this union they were blessed with five children.  She happily worked the night shift in order to be home with her young children during the day.  She later worked for the Board of Education as a librarian for 15 years before retiring.  She was adamant that her children use the same proper etiquette that she learned from her grandmother.

Weaver’s legacy will always be remembered for her undeniable love for family.  She will also be remembered for her superior cooking skills, which she shared with many family and friends.  She had an insatiable pursuit of the perfect and “pretty” dinner table, which she often achieved.  She was known for her witty sense of humor and loud laughter.  It was no secret that “pulling the wool over her eyes”, was next to impossible.

Weaver could be described as a firm disciplinarian but was a spoiler to her grandchildren.  The strict etiquette and discipline turned into spoiling, laughter, kisses and hugs.  She delighted herself in her grandchildren and enjoyed them very much.

In the later years of her life, special care was given by daughter, Allison; for which the family is forever grateful.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary V. Banks, and loving husband, Charles L. Thomas, Jr.  She is survived by sister, June Jackson; children, Patricia (Hurley) Goodall, Charles (Ele) Thomas III, Allison Thomas, Kimberly (Tony) Malone and Courtney (Quentin) Wyatt; grandchildren, Kimberly (Ikenna) Ofobike, Courtney (Derreco) Hallmon, Hurley E. Goodall, Jr., Christine Malone, Che’ Thomas, Jasmine and Alexis Wyatt; great-grandchildren, Derreco and Bailei Hallmon; lifelong friend, Barbara Whaley and a host of relatives, friends and well-wishers.
