Susie Shephard, 88, went home to be with the Lord on June 13, 2010, with her son, Lee, at her side at Akron General Medical Center, after a short illness. She was born in Auburn, AL to Dessie and Bell Taylor. She met and married Sterling Shephard in Euafala, AL. To this union six children were born. They moved to Akron, OH in 1944. She accepted Christ at a young age. When she moved to Akron, she attended several churches before she united with Antioch Baptist Church. She was member there for 56 years. She worked for Yeager’s Department Store. She was a fantastic cook, known for her fried chicken, greens and corn bread. She also loved styling hair. Her hobbies were crocheting, fishing and watching her favorite religious TV programs. She was a very loving mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by husband, Sterling Shephard, Sr.; son, Freddie Shephard; daughter, Ethel Shephard; brothers, Andrew, John Henry and Frank; sisters, Bertha, Daisy Bell, Ethel Mae and Ellen. She leaves to cherish her memory sons, Sterling (Sondra) Shephard and Lee (Flora) Shephard; daughters, Betty (Rev. George) McNab, and Roberta (Deacon Robert) Shoates, all of Akron, OH. Brother, Jesse Taylor; sisters, Willie Mae Taylor of Syracuse, N.Y., Ida Mae Leech of Oakland, CA., Everlee, Louise and Bertha Lee all of Auburn, Ala.; 14 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 42 great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Earnestine Shephard; sister-in-laws Dora Shephard and Nettie Taylor; a host of nieces and nephews; dear friends, Bernice Moore and Mary Streeter, her little buddy and yard man, Glenn Tyler; and other relatives and friends.
