Maurice D. Chatman 70, passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at his home surrounded by family in Akron, Ohio.  He was born in Rome, Georgia on April 5, 1939 to the late McNeal and Ora Dean Chatman.  Maurice lived in Akron, Ohio most of his life. He attended the Akron Public School system graduating in 1957 from Hower Vocational High School, where he pursued a major course of study in Industrial Arts.  He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1961, where he was a wheel vehicle mechanic.  He served three years in Germany, where he obtained the rank of E4.  He was honorably discharged in 1964.   Maurice was employed at Babcock & Wilcox and Goodrich.  He retired from Alside in 2009.  Maurice was a devoted fan of both the Cleveland Browns and Cavaliers.  He spent plenty of hours sitting in front of the television watching them.  His hobbies included auto mechanics, working on his home and cars.  He would not hesitate to help a friend.

Maurice was preceded in death by his father, McNeal Chatman; mother, Ora Dean Chatman; nephews, Tony and Kenny Brown; nieces Stacy and Laural Lee Brown.

Maurice leaves to cherish him memory, children, Deshawn Moore, Rico Moore, and April Burton of Akron, Ohio; sisters, Gwen (Winston) Martin, Joyce Ford, Janice Brown, all of Rome, Georgia; brother, Donald Chatman of Akron; one special friend, Linda Burton of Akron, Ohio; step daughter, Sherry Burton-Sutton of Maryland; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  The family would also like to extend a special thank you to close cousin, Clarence (Andrea) Hawkins, and all the nurses who aided in his care.

Services will be held on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. at Stewart & Calhoun Funeral Home, 529 W. Thornton St., Akron, OH 44307.  Friends may call at the chapel from 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Interment Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.  Procession will form and condolences may be sent to 1263 Delos St. Akron, OH 44306.
