Derrick Len Shelton was born in Akron, Ohio on November 1, 1969 to Margie Heflin and the late Glen F. Mullins.  He departed this life peacefully at home on May 18, 2010.  He was a lifetime resident of Akron, Ohio. 

Derrick was baptized at a young age at Timothy Baptist Church.  He attended Akron Public Schools graduating from Garfield High School.  

He was preceded in death by his father, Glen F. Mullins; father, Willie Heflin “Pops”; brothers, Glen F. Shelton, and Tony Heflin; grand nephew, Tyler R. Watson; special cousin, RaShan Lewis. 

He is survived by a very loving mother “ma-ma” Margie Heflin; sisters, Tracey and Michelle Mullins; brothers, Ricky Owens and Nolan Heflin; loving grandmother, Belzie Carson; paternal grandparents, Rev. Willie and Veolia Mullins; special aunts and uncle, Loree (Earl) McDonald, Levonia (Eugene) Lewis, Michael Carson, Chris Carson, Carl Parker; very special great aunt, Algusta Worthy; and a host of niece, nephews, relatives and all his neighborhood kids.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 21, 2010 at Stewart & Calhoun Funeral Home, 529 W. Thornton St., Akron, OH 44307, Minister Francine Blake officiating.  Friends may visit at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. until time of service.  Procession will form and condolences may be sent to 1510 Superior Ave., Akron, OH 44307.
