Carolyn Murray was the youngest of four children born to Maggie and Dewitt Murray on May 18, 1913 in Port Gibson, Mississippi. She was raised in Port Gibson, attended Clairborne County High School, later graduating from Jackson College. As a small child, she was fascinated by the organ, so a friend of her mothers taught her the fundamentals of organ playing. This began her love for music. In June of 1934, she married Joseph Harrison Williams. They were married for 59 years. No children were born out of this union; but Carolyn was a spiritual mother, godparent, sister, confidant and friend to many. She moved to Akron, Ohio in 1936 with her husband. Carolyn was baptized and received the Holy Ghost in 1937 under the late Eld. Raymond Robinson. She was a faithful member of First Apostolic Faith Church for 73 years, an active pianist and church musician for many years, organizing the first FAFC Choir. Carolyn was a dedicated Sunday School teacher for almost 50 years. She possessed a love for the children and until her health declined could be found in the Primary Department. She also served on the Missionary Board and was an active member of The Service League. A favorite quote that Carolyn liked was “If you make one step to God, He will make two steps to you.” She is preceded in death by parents, Dewitt and Maggie; brothers, Dewitt Jr., and Weaver; sister, Vivian Ophelia; husband, Joseph Williams; sisters-in-law, Dessie (Robert) Morris, and Eva Lee; brother-in-law, Thomas Williams “TJ”. Carolyn is survived by nephew, Thomas (LaToya) Williams; niece, Gladys Carter; cousin, Marguerite (Mack) Parker; godchildren, Stephen (Judy) Powell, and Carolynda Dortch. She had three spiritual sons, Troy Jones, Bernard Boyer, and Robert Johnson; and a host of other relatives and friends. A special thank you to Lorene Pitts and Vivian Burgan.
