Foster “Calvin” Blackmon was born in Repton, Alabama on April 9, 1938, to the union of Lucille Evans (Gullett) and the late Foster Calvin Blackmon. He was the 2nd child born out of ten children. On May 8, 2010, Calvin passed away after a brief illness at a local hospital. Calvin was employed at Babcock and Wilcox as a machinist and retired after “25” years of service. In 1971, he started his own business (CB1 Asphalt & Trucking) by providing servicing for landscaping, snow plowing, blacktop, concrete, asphalt and trucking in Akron and surrounding towns. Hard work, determination and a passion for people, made Calvin a successful entrepreneur. Calvin leaves to cherish his memories his mother, Lucille Evans, his fiancé, Carolyn Chambers; daughter, Jackie M. Reed; 3 sons, Ronald Thompson, Ronald Mayle, and an adopted son, Jesse Thompson; 9 siblings, Betty Rumph, Clara Ezell, Deloris Griffin, Arneita Foster, Pamela DuBose, Cornelius Bee, Eddie Charles Dubose, Eugene DuBose and Michael DuBose; 7 grandchildren; very special friend, Mary Newby; and a host of nieces nephews, other relatives and friends. Services will be held Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. at Second Baptist Church, 690 S. Main St., Akron, OH 44311, Pastor Roderick C. Pounds officiating. Interment Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may visit at Stewart & Calhoun Funeral Home, 529 W. Thornton St., Akron, OH 44307 on Friday, May 14, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at the church from 11:00 a.m. until time of service. Procession will form at 765 Hayden Ave., Akron, OH 44320, and condolences may be sent to 765 Hayden Ave., and 1948 Watercrest Ave., Maple Heights, OH 44137.
