Mrs. Bessie was born on April 7, 1920 in Marvell, AR. The daughter of Andrew and Roxie Taylor Williams, Sister Robinson received her formal education in the Phillips County (Marvell, AR) public school system. She accepted Christ at Old Mount Every Baptist Church where she was baptized at an early age. Bessie was united in Holy Matrimony to Barnes R. Robinson on January 27, 1938 in Marvell, AR. The union was blessed with five children. Her role model was always leading by example for her family, and being committed to Christ. Bessie lived a share cropper’s lifestyle all of her life while living in the south; namely hard working. The Robinson kids were always taught great values, such as living a Christian life, working hard, getting an education, cooking, wearing neatly pressed clothing and so much more. In 1962, Bessie’s family moved to Akron, OH, where she was gainfully employed as a domestic worker. She was dedicated and even worked until the age of 89. She was a unique person, creating a reputation for having one of the best looking lawns in her neighborhood. She received several certificates from the City of Akron entitled, “The Most Beautiful Lawn - Help Keep Akron Clean”. Some of the joys of her life were her lawn, flowers, vegetable garden and baking cheese pound cakes, coconut cakes, and homemade lemonade, just to name a few. In 1963, she united with Antioch Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member and loved her church family. Going out to dinner after church on Sundays became another special joy for her and a certain group of the Antioch ladies, and frequently including one gentleman. Mrs. Bessie Robinson departed this life on Monday, June 14, 2010. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Andrew and Roxie Williams; husband, Barnes Robinson; daughter, Helen Johnson; son, Barnes Robinson, Jr.; and three brothers, Charles Chestnut, David Chestnut and Jessie James Elie. She leaves to cherish her memory brother, James Williams of West Helena, AR; sons, James Robinson of Mequon, WI. and Cambric (Rudene) Robinson of Milwaukee, WI; daughter, Yvonne (Darwin) Johnson of Akron, OH. She had 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many special friends.
