Bernard “Melvin” Davis, Sr., Melvin, as he was so lovingly called, departed this life on Wednesday, April 28, 2010. He was a member of New Life Christian Center C.O.G.I.C. He attended Akron Public Schools and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army. Melvin retired from the Chrysler plant in Twinsburg, Ohio after 37 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Post 272, V.F.W., Post 3618 and the Bid Whest Club. He was also a lifetime member of the N.A.A.C.P. Melvin was a foster parent for the Summit County Children’s Services for many years. Melvin was preceded in death by his father, Lee A. Copeland; mother, Willie Pearl Thomas; sister, Velma Walker; and brother, Charles Thompson. He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Frances Davis; stepson, Fred Elliott; daughters, Sonya Davis, Opal (Darrell) Johnson, Lisa (Melvin) Burney all of Akron, Ohio; son, Bernard (J.B.) (Nicole) Davis, Jr. of Akron, Ohio; sister, Mildred (James) Harrison, Sr. of Akron, Ohio; brother, Cecil (Lena) Hatcher of Birmingham, Alabama; 11 grand children, 8 great grand children; and a host of nieces, nephews cousins, other family members and friends. Special friends, Horace Jones, Ben Jackson and Frank Williamson.
