William Calhoun, Co-Founder

William Calhoun is one of the three original co-founders of Stewart and Calhoun Funeral Home and Cremation Service. As a native of Akron, Ohio, William “Bill” Calhoun has always had a heart for his community.  His love and ties to Akron can be seen and felt in many ways.  Currently Bill is actively serving on the Board of Trustees for the East Akron Community House.  He formerly served on several other boards such as the Akron Girl Scout Council, and the Chapel Hill Christian School Board of Trustees. 

Bill is a lifetime member of the NAACP as well as Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity where he served as the former Keeper of Exchequer (Treasurer) with the Akron Alumni Chapter.  He also is a proud member of various other organizations including the Mount Calvary Lodge #76 Prince Hall Masons, Bezeleel Consistory #15, Al Kaf Shrine Temple #109 Imperial Council, Elks Pride of Rubbertown  Lodge #112, and the Youth Motivation Task Force.

Bill is a 1959 graduate of Garfield High School and completed his undergraduate degree at Kent State University.  He received his funeral service credentials from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1963.  He is certified by the Conference of National Service Examining Boards of the United States and is an Ohio Licensed Funeral Director, Embalmer, and Ohio Licensed Insurance Agent.  Bill has been this industry for over 40 years proudly providing exceptional service at the Stewart and Calhoun Funeral Home, Inc.                   

Bill Calhoun has been married to his wife Margaret Ann Carter-Calhoun for over 45 years.  Together they have three children:  M. Allison (Paul) Brown, W. Byron (Alison) Calhoun, and S. Adina (Greg) Walker.  He is also the proud “Papa” of six grandchildren:  Nyla, Joshua and Caleb Walker, Amaia Calhoun, and Braxton and Aleah Brown.   In his spare time, Bill enjoys sports, music, movies and vintage automobiles and hearses.
